You Think Baths Are Too Much Work? Read This First

The English translation is below

Bath time is not just about getting clean.
It’s a special time and space where you can warm your body, relax into the water’s pressure and buoyancy, soothe away the fatigue of the day, and truly unwind.

Recently, even in Japan, I think more people are simply taking showers instead of baths.
But as for me, I’m firmly on Team Bathtub every single day, enjoying long, relaxing soaks in warm — not too hot — water.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that bathing is one of my hobbies.
So this time, as someone who absolutely loves baths, I’d like to go into full “bath evangelist” mode, introduce the charms of Japanese bath culture… and perhaps even change the world a little. 😄

I think many of you may have the impression that preparing a bath is a hassle — filling the tub, adjusting the temperature, and all that.

No worries. It’s literally just one button!

You simply press the “Auto Bath” button, and the tub fills itself to your preset temperature and water level in about 15 minutes♪
Since many homes across Japan use very similar bath systems from the same manufacturers, the process is often pretty much like this:

Press the Auto Bath button

A voice says, “Starting the bath fill,” and hot water begins flowing

About 10 minutes later: “Your bath will be ready soon”

Then about 3 minutes after that, the classic melody from Dolly’s Dreaming and Awakening — the one practically 100 million Japanese people can hum — starts playing

Finally: “Your bath is ready.”

Mission complete❣️

This isn’t the control panel from my own home, but honestly, most Japanese homes have something very similar, so I immediately know how to use it♪

It’s kind of like a washlet toilet
Since soaking in a bathtub is basically considered essential in Japan, I think we ended up pouring all our technology into making baths as easy and comfortable as possible.

Because it’s common for several family members to bathe at different times, there’s also a “Reheat” button.
If the water gets lukewarm, you simply press it, and the bath automatically heats back up to your preset temperature and then stops by itself.

Even the bathtub itself is often designed like a thermos, so the water stays warm surprisingly well!

And if the water level gets too low, no problem.
There’s an “Add Water” function too, which — once again — works with just one button and adds fresh warm water automatically.

Sometimes the previous person made the bath way too hot (in my house, that would be my father 😂).
In that case, we just press the “Add Cold Water” button to cool it down a little.

See?! Everything can be customized exactly the way you like just by pressing buttons

And even if a small disaster happens — like realizing there’s no shampoo after you’ve already gotten in the bath — many Japanese bathrooms have an intercom panel connected to the kitchen, so you can call for help through the speaker♬

Even after hearing all this, some of you may still be thinking,
“Okay… but if a shower is enough, do you really need to soak in a bathtub?”

And my answer is: yes. Absolutely yes.

A shower cleans the outside of your body.
But a bath takes care of the inside.

Soaking in hot water warms you deeply, relaxes your muscles, improves circulation, and helps your body and mind recover from the day in a completely different way.

So now, please allow me to passionately explain the true benefits of bathing properly

① Benefits for the Body

When your body absorbs the heat from the bath, your blood vessels expand and circulation improves.
And that leads to all kinds of wonderful things

⭐︎ Waste products are flushed out more easily, and your metabolism gets a boost!
Apparently, when your body temperature rises by just 1°C, your basal metabolic rate increases by around 12–13%.
Which basically means… it becomes easier to lose weight 🎶

⭐︎ Tight muscles relax, helping to relieve stiff shoulders and lower back pain.
Honestly, desk workers especially need bathtubs!

⭐︎ A warmer body also strengthens the immune system.
In Japan, some people practically treat mild colds with hot baths

And in modern society, summer is exactly when you need baths the most!
Offices and indoor spaces are blasted with air conditioning these days, so sometimes summer turns into a battle against being cold.

There are more benefits too:

⭐︎ Water pressure helps push lymph fluid upward from the legs and feet, reducing swelling
⭐︎ Warm water softens the skin, making it easier to clean out pores thoroughly

So yes — simply taking a bath can help your body recover from the day’s damage🎵

And honestly, baths don’t just help the body. They’re wonderful for the mind too.
I was going to start talking about the mental benefits as well… but apparently this article can no longer contain the full power of my bath obsession

So I’ll save that for next time.

My love for baths became too powerful.
Once this passion starts running, the barriers of reason no longer work.

I already have a feeling the next article will spiral out of control too
