Gemini

The opening sequence keeps getting more spectacular with each movie! ♬
2007 – Movie 11: Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure
On the southern island of Kamikai Island, a series of murders breaks out over the legendary treasure of the female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read. As Conan and his friends unravel the mystery behind the hidden treasure, they become caught up in the secrets lying beneath the sea—and the culprit’s true scheme. The friendship between Ran and Sonoko is another highlight of the movie.
The culprit was so ruthless that I couldn’t feel the slightest bit of sympathy.
Cutting Sonoko’s arm and using her blood to lure sharks… that’s pretty gruesome for a family-friendly anime.
Since the culprit was such a terrible person, when everyone escaped on the boat at the end, I kept thinking:
If I knew there weren’t enough oxygen tanks, I would never give one to the culprit!
Well… maybe if there were extras.
I know that’s part of Conan’s sense of justice—no one is left to die, not even the criminal.
But the idea of decent, innocent people becoming victims instead just feels wrong to me.
I truly hope we never live in a world where good people are the ones forced to make the sacrifice.
2008 – Movie 12: Full Score of Fear
A series of murders targeting musicians shocks the community. Conan investigates a bombing plot centered around a newly built concert hall, where perfect pitch becomes the key to solving the case. It’s a music-themed mystery with plenty of suspense.
One thing I found funny, though, is Conan himself.
He can play the violin, has an excellent ear, and can even produce a specific sound frequency…
…yet he’s completely tone-deaf when it comes to singing.
That’s a bit too extreme, isn’t it?
The culprit was oddly merciful in one respect. Instead of trying to kill Reiko, he merely knocked her unconscious and left her floating on a boat.
That said, he was still planning to blow up an entire concert hall full of people, so by that point he had clearly stopped caring about how many lives he took.
One scene left me with mixed feelings.
While the substitute singer was performing on stage, Reiko suddenly appeared from the audience, singing Amazing Grace over the top of the performance.
I understand why—it was necessary to prevent the pipe organ from producing a specific note and triggering the explosion.
But from the audience’s point of view, it must have felt like they had suddenly been dragged into an unexpected “battle of the divas.”
I know the scene was meant to show that Reiko’s voice completely captivated the hall and highlight her star quality.
Still, as someone who plays music myself (the piano, in my case), it didn’t sit quite right with me.
Having someone step in halfway through and overshadow the performer who was already on stage felt rather disrespectful. If the goal was to let the concert go on, pushing the substitute singer aside like that seemed unfair.
As the story progressed, I actually grew to like Reiko more and more, which made that scene a little disappointing.
Reiko also gradually forms a bond with Conan, but my favorite moment was when Ayumi teased him by saying,
“Conan likes older women!”
That line really made me laugh.
2009 – Movie 13: The Raven Chaser
A series of murders modeled after the Big Dipper draws Conan into a new investigation. As he follows the trail, a member of the Black Organization who has infiltrated the police gets dangerously close to discovering that Conan is actually Shinichi Kudo. The movie is packed with tense confrontations between Conan and the Organization.
I mostly know Conan through the movies, but I think this was the first time I ever saw Haibara truly lose her temper.
When she shouted, “What if they find out you’re Shinichi Kudo?!”, it didn’t feel like she was afraid for herself or worried about being hunted by the Organization again.
She was genuinely worried about Shinichi.
Her anger came from that concern, and it was one of those moments that made me realize just how deeply she cares about him.
The first time Mizutani appeared on screen, I immediately thought,
“In a Conan movie, a handsome guy with such a gloomy look can’t possibly be innocent…”
It turned out I wasn’t the only one being suspicious.
That aside, I’ve always wondered what brings the members of the Black Organization together in the first place.
They all seem to have their own agendas.
Vermouth doesn’t always follow the Organization’s orders, and even Irish ends up sacrificing himself to protect Conan in the end.
One thing I do enjoy, though, is that all the code names are based on alcoholic drinks.
If they keep adding new members, I’d love to see a few Japanese drinks used as code names too!
2010 – Movie 14: The Lost Ship in the Sky
The terrorist group “Red Siamese Cats” threatens to unleash a deadly virus. Aboard the giant airship Bell Tree I, Conan teams up with Kaito Kid to uncover the truth behind the incident and stop the terrorists before it’s too late.
One thing I’ve noticed during my Conan movie marathon…
Plastic explosives are making yet another appearance!
Are they really that useful?
After Conan was thrown off the airship, Kid jumped after him…
But if Conan fell first, there’s no way Kid could catch up, right?
It reminded me of Castle of Cagliostro, where Lupin somehow managed to “swim” downward through the air and catch up with someone below him. Movie physics at its finest!
While Conan was busy talking on the phone, Kid had nothing to do, so he spent his time playing with a goat in his usual white phantom thief outfit. ♪
Watching those scenes in broad daylight made me realize something…
That white tuxedo and top hat just don’t suit the daytime.
Instead of looking like the legendary Phantom Thief Kid, he looked more like someone wandering around in cosplay.
His signature white cape really shines at night, not under the midday sun.
Kid never seems interested in actually fighting the villains.
I always think it would be so much cooler if he teamed up with Conan and helped corner the culprit.
But no… he’s always off doing his own thing. ♡
…
After watching this many Conan movies, I’ve realized something about myself.
I’m actually not that interested in the culprit’s motive or the tricks behind the crime!
So why am I even watching Detective Conan?
And yet, I never get tired of it.
As more and more characters have been introduced, I’ve even started watching some of the TV episodes beforehand to better understand the movies.
I asked Gemini to put together a viewing guide for me, and it’s been really helpful!
Could you please put together the complete post-2011 watch order, including the special editions, the TV episodes, and the movies?
Now, here’s the complete watch order that brings together everything we’ve talked about so far—the movies, the most essential TV episodes, and the special TV editions made for the films.
The Complete Watch Order (2012–2026): The Ultimate Conan Marathon Guide
Follow this timeline in order, and you’ll never miss an important clue, character relationship, or story connection. It’s the perfect route for experiencing the world of Detective Conan to the fullest.
…
Well… somehow I’ve completely fallen down the Conan rabbit hole.
