以前このブログでも書きましたが、私は2024年の２月から
Duolingoでスペイン語を学んでいます。しかも１日も
休まずねっ‼︎ 記事にしたときは連続学習記録は276日でしたが
もはや毎日のルーティンとして組み込まれているのでそのまま
1年を超え、400日のピタリ賞に到達しました
連続記録そのものよりも、私のスペイン語力は上がったのか？
という問いには、答えはYESです。
普段からスペイン語のポッドキャストを聞いたり、ネットで
記事を読んだりしているのですが、私にとってDuolingoは
文法を忘れないためのもの、という位置付けです
スペイン語は動詞の活用が多いし、不規則動詞もやっかい
なので、このアプリは役に立っていると思います
もちろん毎日やっていたから、というのが最大の要因だと
思っておりますよ！自分でも。でもこのアプリは、楽しい！
とまではいかなくても、つまらなくはない、というレベルを
維持できている工夫のあるアプリだとは思います
レッスンをこなすと、XPというポイントがもらえて、そのポイントが
多い上位何名かが上のリーグに昇格できるのですが
（逆にサボると降格します）
今、私はこのリーグで2位なんですが〜〜順位はあまり
気にしてないんですけど、1年以上連続で学習すると
名前の下に 1＋year がついてくるんですよ
多分これを見たからだと思うのですが、マジな学習者さんからの
フォローがくるようになりました
このアプリって、個人的に何か発信するわけではないので、
なんでフォローしてくれるのか謎なんですけど、これまでは
いたってフツーの、日によってやったりやらなかったりしている
愛すべきフォロワーさんで、たまに私が喝を入れていました（笑）
このマジ&ガチな学習者さんたちはみなさん有料版で（私は無料版）
短期間で私よりXPは稼ぐわ、リーグ内で1位になったり、当然
連続学習記録も着々と延ばし、学習言語のレベルもどんどん上がっています
フレンドクエスト、といって相互フォローしている同士2人で
例えば1週間で50レッスンをこなす、みたいなタスクがあるんですよ
クリアすると両方ともXPが多くもらえるのですが、相手がガンガンこなすので
私、タダ乗りしてるみたいで悪いな〜って気分になります。。。
そのせいか、前より学習時間が長くなったと思います
フォロワーさんたちの本当の名前も国籍も分かりませんが
（1人の方は、名前が漢字なので中国の方かな？）
一緒に頑張ってる人達がいるって、なかなかいいな♪
と思うようになりました
このフォロワーさんたちについて行くつもりで、
私もスペイン語のレベルを上げていくぞ‼︎
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been studying Spanish on Duolingo since February 2024 — and I haven’t missed a single day! When I wrote about it before, my streak was at 276 days, but by now it’s become such a part of my daily routine that I’ve sailed right past the one-year mark and just hit a perfect 400-day streak.
But more importantly — has my Spanish actually improved along the way? The answer is yes
I regularly listen to Spanish podcasts and read articles online, but for me, Duolingo is more about keeping my grammar sharp. Spanish verbs have so many conjugations — not to mention those tricky irregular ones — so I find this app really helpful.
Of course, the biggest reason for my progress is simply that I’ve been doing it every single day — I know that myself! Still, even if I wouldn’t call the app “fun,” I do think it’s cleverly designed to keep things from getting boring.
When you complete lessons, you earn points called XP. The more XP you collect, the higher you rank — and the top players move up to the next league. (If you slack off, you get demoted instead!)
Right now, I’m ranked second in my league — not that I really care about the ranking. But once you’ve studied for over a year straight, a little “1+ year” tag appears under your name. Maybe that’s why some serious learners have started following me lately.
It’s funny, because Duolingo isn’t exactly a social app — you don’t really post anything. So I have no idea why they follow me! Up until now, my followers have mostly been lovable, casual learners who do a lesson here and there… and occasionally, I’d give them a little pep talk.
These super-dedicated learners all seem to be using the paid version (while I’m still on the free one). They rack up way more XP than I do in no time, take first place in their leagues, keep extending their streaks, and level up in their target languages at an incredible pace.
There’s something called a “Friend Quest,” where two people who follow each other team up to complete a weekly task — like finishing 50 lessons in a week. Both of us get extra XP if we clear it, but since my partner powers through the lessons so fast, I can’t help feeling like I’m just hitching a free ride…
Maybe that’s why I’ve been spending more time studying lately. I don’t know my followers’ real names or where they’re from — though one of them has a Chinese name, so maybe they’re from China — but it feels nice knowing there are people out there learning alongside me.
I’ve decided to keep up with them and raise my own Spanish level too!
