先日、Duolingoのアプリから今年の成績表みたいな
発表がありまして、去年はTOP3％だったのですが、
今年はなんと1％に入っちゃいました！
Duolingoのユーザーは１億人以上いますから、私は
百万人の中の1人か〜〜けっこういるじゃないですか〜
このアプリを使い始めてから今日でちょうど連続650日目を
迎えており，ここは誇れるところだと思いますが
1番上のダイヤモンドリーグには一度も入ったことは
ないんですよ。いつも2番目の黒曜石か3番目のパールを
行ったり来たりしてます。しかも無料版やってるし（笑）
どれだけやればTOP1％に入るの？！と気になる
方もいると思うので、今日はその中身を公開します！
連続学習記録は上位3％でした。こればかりは
早く始めた人には勝てませんからね！さっきも言いましたが
1番これが難しいことだと思ってるんで。しかも
ストリークフリーズは一度も使ったことはありません♪
やっぱりフレンズたちの存在は大きいと思います
熱心な学習者さんたちがフォローしてくれたおかげです
ついつい乗せられてしまいました
私はスペイン語を学習してますが、1697レッスンを
1年の365日で割ると、１日あたり４.65レッスン
4〜5レッスンですね。たまにフレンズが1日10レッスン
こなした！という通知を見ることもありますが
私は1度もないですね〜
XPはあんまり気にしてなかったんですけど…
その日の学習を開始して、最初の10分だけXPが3倍もらえる
とかいうシステムを有効利用するのがコツだと思います
で、コレは1日あたり約20分なんですよ〜！
なあ〜んだ！って気がしません？しかも20分連続
しないで、分割してもいいんですよ〜
結論は①毎日 ②4〜5レッスン ③時間にして合計約20分 です！
私にとってはもう歯磨きみたいなものでしょうか
もちろん朝から忙しかった日もあって、夜10時位になって
焦ることもあります。1レッスンだけやって終わり、の時もありますが
本来の目的は楽しみながらスペイン語のレベルを上げること
だと見失わないで、やれる範囲で続けていければいいと思ってます
ちなみに500日以上達成した後のこれまでの話ですが
この秋にシステムの大幅な変革があったんです。
29週連続でフレンズクエストのパートナーだった
人がいたんですが、強制的に別れさせられました（涙）
Duolingoの方で、相互フォローの中からランダムに
パートナーを組まされて、学習意欲のひっくい相手に
あたったこともありました。1日1レッスンだけとか
オイオイ、やる気あんのか…
この取り組みは不評だったのか、先月くらいから
元に戻り、今はまたかつてのパートナーと一再び
一緒に組んで、連続記録を35週に伸ばしています♪
ひとつ言えることは、学習意欲の高いユーザーと
フレンドになることは自分にもいい影響をもたらします
私の感覚だと、有料版を使ってる人はそうである可能性が
高いので、フォローしてみるのもいいかもしれませんよ！
The other day, Duolingo sent out a kind of year-end report,
and last year I was in the top 3%,
but this year I somehow made it into the top 1%!
There are over 100 million Duolingo users,
so being one in a million… well, that’s actually still quite a lot, isn’t it? 😆
Today also happens to be my 650th consecutive day on the app,
and that’s something I can truly be proud of.
But I’ve never made it into the top Diamond League —
I’m always bouncing between Obsidian and Pearl, the second and third tiers.
And I’m on the free plan, too! 😂
Some of you might be wondering,
“How much do you have to study to end up in the top 1%?!”
So today, I’m going to show you what’s behind those numbers!
My streak record was in the top 3%.
But with this one, you simply can’t beat the people who started earlier!
As I said before, I actually think maintaining a streak is the hardest part.
And I’ve never used a Streak Freeze — not even once. ✨
Honestly, having friends on the app has made a huge difference.
I’ve been lucky to be followed by so many dedicated learners,
and their motivation kind of pulled me along.
I’m studying Spanish, and if you divide my 1,697 lessons by 365 days,
it comes out to about 4.65 lessons a day — so roughly four to five lessons.
Every now and then I see a notification saying a friend did ten lessons in a single day,
but I’ve never done that… not even once. 😅
I never really paid much attention to XP…
but I think the trick is to make good use of that system
where you get triple XP for the first ten minutes after you start studying for the day.
And that comes to only about twenty minutes a day!
Makes you think, “Oh, that’s it?” right? 😆
And you don’t even have to do the twenty minutes all at once —
you can break it up throughout the day.
So here’s the conclusion:
① every day
② four to five lessons
③ about twenty minutes in total
For me, it’s become almost like brushing my teeth.
Of course, there are days when I’m busy from the morning,
and I end up panicking around ten at night.
Sometimes I just do a single lesson and call it a day.
But I try not to lose sight of the real goal:
to enjoy the process while improving my Spanish,
and to keep going at a pace that actually works for me.
By the way, here’s what happened after I hit 500 days.
This fall, Duolingo made a major change to the system.
I had been paired with the same friend for Friends Quest
for 29 consecutive weeks, but we were suddenly separated. (Yes, forcibly. 😢)
Duolingo started assigning partners randomly
from the people you mutually follow,
so I sometimes got matched with someone
who had almost no motivation at all.
There were days when they did just one lesson…
and I couldn’t help thinking, “Seriously? That’s it?” 😅
Maybe the feature wasn’t very well-received,
because around last month everything went back to the old system.
And now I’m partnered with my original buddy again,
and we’ve extended our streak to 35 weeks!
One thing I can say for sure is that becoming friends with highly motivated learners really has a positive effect on your own study habits.
From what I’ve seen, people who use the paid version tend to be more consistent,
so it might be worth giving them a follow!
