本日は、令和8年8月8日！8並びのめでたい日です！
8がめでたいとされる理由は「八」という漢字の形
から来ています。下に向かって広がっていく形をしてますよね？
「末広がり」→未来に向かって発展する、運が広がる
という縁起の良いイメージになりました。
日本ではこういう縁起の良い日や覚えやすい日に
婚姻届を出したり、記念日にしたいという人が
一定数いまして、私も例外ではないようです（笑）
この記事を公開するのはこの日しかないと
心に決めておりました！
最初の400日達成の記事からさらに倍以上の月日が流れ…
私が前の記事で書いたのは、リーグの順位に継続1年以上を示す
アイコン（今は廃止されてますが）がついたおかげで
熱心な学習者さんたちにフォローされるようになったこと
そして彼らに引っ張られるように自分の学習時間も増えていった
という、Duolingoの学習が、違う景色になってきたフェーズです
コレなんですよ。ブログ100記事達成の記事でも書きましたが
「継続することでしか見えない景色」
そして今回は400日の時とは明らかに違う、
Duolingo Lifeが円熟期に入っている実感です
「つまらなくはない」から「じわじわ楽しくなってきた」に
変わってきました！
Dolingo側もちょこちょこイベントらしいもので
ユーザーを楽しませようとしてくれています
学習すると、アバターの着せ替えが配られる時も
ありまして、もらったら何でもいいから着ていました♬
ワールドカップシーズンには各国のユニフォームが
毎日１つゲットできたので、その日もらったユニフォームを
日替わりで着ていたのですが、ついにJAPANのサムライブルーが
めぐってきてからはずっとそれを着ています
日本が負けた後にもらったんですけど…
リーグの中でもほとんどの人がどこかの国のユニフォーム
を着ていて、なんだかんだみんなノリがいいじゃん♪
って、ちょっと嬉しいです（笑）
どうせならそれに乗っかって面白がったほうが
やってて楽しいですもんね🎶
JAPANユニフォームを着ているせいか
最近日本語学習者さんからのフォローも来ました♬
400日あたりは、フレンズクエストで
相手の足を引っ張らないように、との思いで
レッスンをこなしていましたが
ダイヤモンドリーグに常駐している今となっては（フフフ）
他のフォロワーさんたちを牽引する立場に
なってるかも〜なんて勝手に思っています♪
ダイヤモンドリーグから落ちないためには
デイリークエストの3番目、3倍のXPが稼げるところを
クリアしておくのが鍵です。TOP3辺りはバケモノがいるので
上位を目指そう！なんて無駄に戦うことはしてません
スコアが上がったり、コンボが長く続いたりすると
みんなLikeを押してくれたりするので、ちゃんと
見てくれてるんだな〜と励みになります
最近はフレンズクエストもいつも同じパートナー
ではなくなり、違う相手になったりするのですが
いつものパートナーだと順当に二日目くらいで
難なくクリアする一方で
そうでない相手だとこんなことも…
…やれよっっ！ 丸投げするな〜〜！
まぁ、自分の無理のない範囲でならなんとか
するけどよ〜〜

Gemsと呼ばれる、お金みたいなものも貯まるだけで
特に使い道がないのでXP3倍の延長に支払ったり
フレンズクエストで相手にXP2倍のギフトを贈ったり
ストリークシールドが切れそうなフォロワーさんに
買ってあげたり♪
その割に無料版での電池のチャージは買わずに
地味に広告流してます（笑）ま、その間お茶飲んだりして♪
時々やってくるファミリープランのお試し期間には
無料版のフォロワー同士で招待し合っています
もはや不可抗力のことが起きないかぎり、連続学習日数は
このまま更新し続けるんだろうと思います
でも1日１レッスンで連続記録を維持しているような
エセ学習者と一緒にしてもらっちゃあ困ります♪
目指すところはスペイン語の上達ですから！
今はスコアを1上げるだけでもたくさんのレッスンを
こなさなくてはなりません。レッスン数の割に
上がるレベルは少しづつだし、程よく復習も交ざるので
文法力をつけるにはいいアプリだと思いますよ
効率の良い近道とは言えませんが、テキスト開くよりは
いつでもどこでも出来ますし、フレンズとの
ゆるい付き合いも心地いいです
楽しくなってきたかもって感じるまで、800日以上！
でも、コレもまた続けたから味わえた感覚だし
何よりスペイン語を読むのも聞くのも
ずっと楽になっていると実感しています♬

In Japan, the number 8 is considered auspicious because of the shape of the kanji 「八」. See how it widens toward the bottom?
This shape is associated with the idea of suehirogari — “widening toward the end” — symbolizing growth, prosperity, and good fortune expanding into the future.
In Japan, there are quite a few people who choose auspicious or easy-to-remember dates to register their marriages or celebrate as anniversaries.
Apparently, I’m no exception.
I had already decided in my heart that there was only one day I could publish this article:

More than twice as many days have passed since my first 400-day streak article…
In my 400-day streak article，I wrote about how an icon showing that I had been learning for over a year appeared next to my league ranking. (That icon has since been discontinued.) Thanks to it, I started getting followed by some very dedicated learners.
And, little by little, their enthusiasm rubbed off on me. I found myself spending more time studying, too.
That was the phase when my Duolingo experience started to look different. I was beginning to see a whole new side of learning.
This is exactly what I also wrote about in my 100th blog post:
“There are things you can only see by sticking with something.”
And now, at 880 days, I can clearly feel that my Duolingo Life has entered a more mature phase — something that is distinctly different from where I was at 400 days.
It has gone from “It’s not boring” to “I’m slowly starting to really enjoy it.”
And that feels like a pretty big change.
Duolingo also tries to keep users entertained with little events and activities from time to time.
Sometimes, you can get avatar outfits just by studying, and whenever I received one, I would put it on my avatar, no matter what it was. ♬
During the World Cup season, we could get one national team jersey each day, so I wore whichever jersey I received that day, changing it every day.
But then the JAPAN jersey — our “Samurai Blue” — finally came up, and I’ve been wearing it ever since.
I got it after Japan had already lost, though…
Almost everyone in my league was wearing a jersey from one country or another, and I found myself thinking, “Hey, everyone’s actually pretty good at having fun with this!” ♪
That made me a little happy.
I mean, if something like this is there, why not play along and have some fun with it? It makes the whole experience more enjoyable. 🎶
Perhaps because I’m wearing the JAPAN jersey, I’ve also recently started getting followed by people who are learning Japanese. ♬
Around the 400-day mark, I was doing my lessons mainly because I didn’t want to let my Friends Quest partner down.
But now that I’m a permanent resident of the Diamond League… hehe… I sometimes like to think that maybe I’ve become one of the people who helps keep my fellow followers motivated. ♪
To stay in the Diamond League, the key is to complete the third Daily Quest, which gives you a chance to earn triple XP.
There are some absolute monsters around the top three, though, so I don’t waste my energy trying to fight my way to the top.
When my score goes up or I keep a combo going for a long time, people often hit the Like button for me. It’s encouraging to know that they’re actually paying attention to what I’m doing.
Recently, I haven’t always been paired with the same Friends Quest partner. Sometimes I get matched with someone else.
When I’m paired with my usual partner, we normally breeze through the quest and finish it by around the second day.
But with some other partners, things can go like this…
I did all 12. You did ZERO.
…COME ON!! DO YOUR PART!!
Don’t just dump the whole thing on meeee!
Well, I’ll do what I can—as long as it’s within a reasonable amount of effort for me.

I also keep accumulating Gems, which are basically Duolingo’s in-app currency, but I don’t have much use for them. So I sometimes spend them to extend a 3× XP boost, send a 2× XP gift to my Friends Quest partner, or buy a Streak Freeze for a follower whose streak is about to break. ♪
And yet, when it comes to charging the battery in the free version, I refuse to spend Gems and just sit through the ads instead. Well, I can use that time to have a cup of tea.
When the occasional free trial of the Family Plan comes around, my followers and I—who are all on the free version—invite each other to join.
At this point, unless something completely beyond my control happens, I imagine I’ll just keep adding to my streak.
But please don’t lump me in with those “learners” who do one lesson a day just to keep their streak alive. ♪
My real goal is to improve my Spanish!
These days, raising my score by even one point requires completing quite a lot of lessons. The amount my level increases is getting smaller relative to the number of lessons I do, and there’s also a fair amount of review mixed in.
I think that actually makes Duolingo a pretty good app for building grammar skills.
I wouldn’t call it the most efficient shortcut, but I can do it anytime, anywhere, rather than having to sit down with a textbook. And the casual, low-key connections with my fellow learners are nice, too.
It took more than 800 days before I started thinking, “Maybe I’m actually enjoying this now.”
But that, too, is a feeling I could only have experienced because I kept going.
And more than anything, I can genuinely feel that reading and listening to Spanish have become so much easier than they used to be. ♬
